Students spend Valentine's Day at York Minster

Mirfield students and staff spent Valentine's Day in York Minster this year.

Working in collaboration with the Visions team, a group of volunteer students and tutorial staff from the College helped with the liturgy, the music, and the technical support for the Transcendence service in York Minster on February 14th. Students also designed and managed four of the five prayer stations for the service.

The Transcendence service is a registered Anglo-Catholic Fresh Expression, and a joint venture of York Minster and the Visions worship team. The service takes place monthly at the Minster and attracts around 200 worshippers.

Joe Kennedy, College Principal, who presided at the service, commented: "Building on our recent theme week on Fresh Expressions, this project enabled students to learn 'on the ground' about the difference Fresh Expressions are making to the life and mission of the Church of England.

"We are grateful to the Visions team, and especially to Sue Wallace, for making this project possible. Our thanks go, too, to the Dean and Chapter of the Minster for their very generous welcome."

The Revd Sue Wallace, who led students in this project and recently taught at the College as part of our Fresh Expressions Theme Week, is Assistant Priest at St Michael-le-Belfry Church York and Visions Music and Arts Coordinator.
