Spiritual Direction
The College offers each ordinand the opportunity to have a spiritual director – often a brother in the Community. ‘Direction’ does not mean that a spiritual director will take responsibility from us. Rather, spiritual directors seek to help us, through discussion, to take more responsibility for our life as a Christian and for our growth in ministry.
Some students come to college with experience of such spiritual companionship, while for others it is something completely new. Whichever is the case, students often value enormously the opportunity to have someone with whom they can talk confidentially about their spiritual journey.
Each person’s relationship with their spiritual director is different: some students make more use of their spiritual director than others, and the things talked about vary from person to person. The important thing is how our meetings with our spiritual director, and the thought that goes into them and grows out of them, help us to grow to greater maturity in Christ.
"Spiritual direction is, in reality, nothing more than a way of leading us to see and obey the real Director — the Holy Spirit hidden in the depths of our soul." Thomas Merton
