Reflection

If we ask ourselves “What is formation for ministry?”, then we might answer that it is a process in which

all contribute to the growth of our own Christian lives, and in which they strengthen and equip the ministries to which we are being called.

Formation for ministry is both a matter of character formation and a process of learning new knowledge and skills. In order for the work of formation to happen, we need to grow in our ability to integrate our spiritual, intellectual, emotional and practical learning.

Central to any authentically Christian account of formation is the truth that formation within our following of Christ and within our ministry is the work of the Spirit, sent by Christ from the Father. We are formed as Christians and as Christian ministers by grace. Nonetheless, this does not excuse us from taking responsibility for our own formation. ‘Reflective practice’ and ‘theological reflection’ help equip us to take this responsibility and for this reason they are key to formation for ministry at the College of the Resurrection.
