Our 'Ordained Pioneer Minister' Pathway
We believe that candidates for ordained pioneer ministry need to follow the same curriculum as other ordinands. But the focus of application needs to be different.
All of our programmes of formation and study integrate theory and application throughout. This enables candidates to gain a ministerial preparation with both breadth and depth, while at the same time focusing on pioneer ministry through:
- a wide choice of assessment;
- replacement of one module with a project on pioneering situations and fresh expressions of church;
- placement in pioneering situations in the UK;
- optional summer placement in pioneering situations in Southern Africa;
- access to financial grants to attend conferences on Pioneer Ministry and Fresh Expressions;
- regular joint meetings of those preparing for ordained pioneer ministry at both the College and the YMC, facilitated by a pioneer minister;
- teaching by experts from a range of church traditions, with specialism in pioneer ministry as well as in a range of other disciplines.
While numbers nationally preparing for ordained pioneer ministry remain relatively small, the College and its partner institution, the YMC, have a number of candidates on pioneer pathways. Is God calling you to join them?

The real development of theology is rather the process in which the Church, standing firm in her old truths, enters into the apprehension of the new social and intellectual movements of each age… bringing forth out of her treasures things new and old, and showing again and again her power of witnessing under changed conditions.
