Formation
Formation is the process of allowing the beauty that belongs to each of us come to the surface - the beauty of the image of God in us. Some things about Christian life and ordained ministry never change. It will always require disciplined commitment, patience, attentive listening, waiting quietly on God. We seek through all the different aspects of life at College to keep the call of God always before us. They help us to see how easily we impose our own will, which prevents us from being conformed to Christ in his death and resurrection. Gradually we come to learn that "in dying we live" and so can move towards the liberty of the children of God.
Two or three years at College do not form us as priests or lay ministers, but it is a specially focussed time for attending to the formative work of the Spirit who is constantly re-making us that the likeness of Christ may be seen in us. Being formed by the Spirit of God is not always straightforward. The very structured timetable, the ordered liturgy, the patterns of serving at table, the sharing of jobs in College - all these can be experienced as means of growth and reassurance.
