College Lecturers

The Vice Principal became a member of the Community of the Resurrection in 1982. Having studied music in Oxford, he trained for the priesthood at Mirfield and then served in a parish and as a university chaplain before returning to Mirfield. In addition to teaching doctrine and moral theology, he is the Community Prior.

The Director of Studies joined the college staff in 1997, after working in Uganda. He teaches Church History, Missiology and Pastoral Studies. He is married with two children.

Joined the staff in January 2005 after serving in parishes in Cornwall and Northampton, and most recently as Solway Fellow and Chaplain of University College, Durham. He teaches liturgy and ecclesiology, and co-ordinates placements and attachments. A former student of the College, and he is currently completing a Durham doctorate on mystery in first-millennium western liturgy.
His publications include contributions to the Mirfield symposium Priests in a People’s Church (edited by George Guiver CR), Companion to Common Worship vols 1 & 2 (Alcuin Club/SPCK), journal articles and reviews. His latest book is Celebrating the Eucharist, an Alcuin Liturgy Guide written with Dr Simon Jones published by SPCK in April 2005. He is married with two daughters, and is a Companion of the Community of the Resurrection.

Joined the College staff in 2005 on a part-time basis to contribute her training and experience in group and organisational dynamics. Her teaching and research is also in practical and pastoral theology, with a particular interest in theological reflection. Hilary came from the Diocese of Exeter where she was a staff member on The South West Ministry Training Course and Bishop's Advisor for Women in Ministry. Prior to this, she worked as a Hospice Chaplain, in parish ministry in the dioceses of Southwark, Coventry and Exeter, and as a consultant to teams within Church, Healthcare and Public Sector settings.

Monastic Lecturers

Joined the college staff in 1987. Before joining the community in 1983 he was a parish priest in Herefordshire and since January 2003 has been the Superior of the Community. He teaches liturgy and his publications include Company of Voices, Faith in Momentum, Everyday God, and Pursuing the Mystery.

The College Librarian also teaches some Postgraduate courses.

Teaches New Testament Greek. His recent publications include Confessing Our Sins and Bearers of the Spirit: Spiritual Fatherhood in Romanian Orthodoxy.

Joined the Community in 1979, and was a tutor in the College from 1980 to 1998 He was Prior of the Community from 1998 to 2005. In September 2005 he returned to the College to teach Anglicanism.

Visiting Lecturers

The Principal of the Northern Ordination Course teaches biblical studies, in particular the Hebrew Scriptures.

The Revd. Mike Gartland
Is a chaplain in psychiatric hospital and lectures in the history of spirituality.

Dr. Barbara Spensley
Teaches biblical and patristic studies. She also chairs the Vacation Term for Biblical Study, Oxford.
