Teaches: Systematic Theology
Jennifer Cooper joined the College staff in 2009, coming from Oxford, where she was a member of the Faculty of Theology in the University. She was Liddon Research Fellow and Senior College Lecturer at Keble College and then Lecturer in Theology at St Benet’s Hall, a post she still retains. A Canadian, Jennifer read theology and philosophy for the BA at the University of Toronto, and for the MA at the University of Ottawa, with a research concentration in systematic theology. She took her doctorate at the University of Oxford, where her research was in contemporary theological anthropology.
Jennifer has extensive pastoral experience in parish ministry, in the university and in working with homeless women. Most recently, she served as a priest in parish ministry in the Diocese of Bristol.
Jennifer's work addresses the nature of God, Christology, theological anthroplogy, sacramental theology and ecclesiology, particularly as these issues have been handled in twentieth century theology. She is also interested in the relation between systematic theology and pastoral theology. Her most recent publication, Humanity in the Mystery of God, is a study of the theological anthropology of Edward Schillebeeckx, published by T&T Clark in 2009. She is currently working on a second book on Schillebeeckx's thought; a future research project will examine the contributions of the French ressourcement theologians to the renewal of contemporary theology.
'I was drawn to the College of the Resurrection by its commitment to the formation of the whole person for priestly ministry, a formation that has its roots in an open and hospitable catholic tradition and places itself at the service of the whole Church.'
